Backseat Atlas is a road-trip planning site for families driving the United States. We started it because most trip content is written for people with unlimited time and no one asking “are we there yet” from the second row.

What we publish

Day-by-day itineraries for real routes — national parks, coastal drives, and cross-state hauls — built around how far a family can actually get in a day. Every itinerary carries honest drive times, stops that hold up with kids in the car, and an all-in budget covering fuel, lodging, food, and entry fees.

How we put a route together

We map the driving legs first, then fit the stops to them rather than the other way around. Distances and timings are checked against current mapping data, park and attraction details against official park service and operator sources, and prices are dated so you can see how fresh a number is. When a stretch of road has no good food or no reliable fuel, we say so.
